Orangetree’s Summer Essential Oils Top Three

Orangetree’s Summer Essential Oils Top Three!!

Essential Oil Uses (1)

It’s sum sum sum summertime here in FLA and it’s HOT, HUMID, and FUN!  I love summer!  I went through a brief phase when I hated it- but that was when I had a newborn baby and a two year old (seriously, what do you do all summer with a newborn and two year old??!!)- thankfully that phase has passed!  Summer is an awesome time to break out your essential oil collection, play around, and experiment.  There are several amazing and practical ways to use your summer essential oils.  I’ve made up a quick top three list of my favorite summer essential oils uses.  Give them a try, let me know your thoughts, and have some fun!

The Sunburn Elixir–  Every summer someone in my household gets a sunburn.  It’s usually me since I am blessed with super fair skin and red hair.  I try my best to avoid sunburn and I have invested a small fortune in sunscreen products.  I have what I believe is an expert collection of sunscreen.  I particularly love to have several different application methods, so I’ve got stick sunscreen, spray sunscreen, and creamy lotion sunscreen!  Maybe I should write another post just about sunscreen?  Anyway, despite my best efforts somebody always gets burned- this is where the Sunburn Elixir comes in.  This combination of oils will relieve the pain of a sunburn, calm and soothe the burned person, and finally help to heal the burn faster.

To make sunburn elixir you will need Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum),  Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), Roman Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis), and Coconut Oil to use as a carrier oil.  In a dark glass bottle with a medicine dropper top combine .5 milliliters of each of the essentials with 50 milliliters of Coconut Oil.  You can double the recipe if you feel like you want more.  To apply just place a few drops on the sunburned skin and gently rub it in.  It smells wonderful and feels wonderful

Peppermint Panacea– Summertime is the season of road trips and inevitable motion sickness.  When I was a kid when left the stifling heat of Florida and escape to the coolness of North Carolina every summer.  I ALWAYS got motion sickness- it was terrible.  Now as a grown up my husband and I take our little family on the same trip.  However, now I have my Peppermint Panacea!  Peppermint will do wonders on my motion sickness and will also give you an energetic pickup!  Peppermint isn’t your first thought when you think of summer essential oils- it’s thought of more in the winter- but I promise you it works in summer too! 😉

To make Peppermint Panacea combine 1 milliliter of Peppermint (Mentha piperita) with 5 milliliters of Coconut Oil in a dark glass roller bar applicator.  That’s all!  Bring it in the car with you and whenever motion sickness begins to strike- whip it out and roll a little on the sufferer’s wrist.  Congratulations- you just saved the vacay!!

Grapefruit and Wild Orange Invigorating Purification Mist–  My little boys love to be outside.  Since they are still pretty little I can’t leave them alone in the backyard for more than a few minutes at a time.  So…. I’m outside a lot!  I tend to get headaches and get very tired when I’m out in the heat for extended periods of time.  I drink a lot of water to stay hydrated, but I’ve found that using Grapefruit and Wild Orange in my diffuser works wonders when I come back inside.  Grapefruit is invigorating and purifies the air.  Wild Orange is activating and will give you energy.  When the two are combined this amazing “citrusy” scent fills my home.  I find that it gives me back my energy that the heat sucked away.  It also helps to relieve my heat induced headaches.  Sometimes I will add in a little Lavender or Lime as well.

To make Grapefruit and Wild Orange Invigorating Purification Mist put about 10 drops each of Grapefruit (Citrus X paradisi) and Wild Orange (Citrus sinensis), add your water, and press the ON button.  That’s it!

I hope you find these summer oil recipes useful, fun, and easy.  Let me know how it goes if you decide to try one out!  Just for reference I use Doterra brand oils.  I’ve done tons of research on oils and I have found their’s to be the best.  The purity of the oils is what seals the deal for me!

So happy to see you posting again! Hope your staying cool this summer! I appreciate the great tips on blends! Do you recommend a particular diffuser?

Hey Courtney- sorry for the seriously delayed response! I hope your summer is going well!! We were out of town for most of July and I’ve been mostly “off the grid”- just getting back on now! I have one that I bought at whole foods for about $40. They also carry a cheaper one for about $30. DoTerra also sells one- which I could order for you (if you’re interested)- it’s a little more pricey at about $80. Jessi has one and says it works better than her first one (she got it on amazon). I think mine works pretty good and I’ll keep it around til it dies, then I’ll probably upgrade to the DoTerra one.
