One of my earliest memories involving essential oils is from a yoga class. At the end of the class during the savasana the teacher brought around a little bottle of lavender oil. She would offer each student a little drop of the oil, which she placed on the wrist. I remember the feeling of relaxation and contentment that came along with that little drop. Not long after I began purchasing oils for myself and slowing immersing myself in the oil world. Essential oils and yoga go hand and hand, and you will find oils are easy to incorporate into any workout really.
Since then I’ve discovered some great ways to incorporate oils into yoga practice. I do my yoga practice at home, so it’s easy for me to use my oils. If you attend a class check with your instructor first. It might be a great way to share your oil love! Anyway, here’s how I use oils when I practice yoga.
I like to start of with peppermint oil. I put one drop in my palms and rub my hands together. I then inhale the scent. Peppermint is energizing and cooling, perfect for a workout! At the end of my practice I will put one drop of lavender on my wrists and rub them together, like I’m applying perfume. I usually don’t do a savasana at home, but I do sit in cross-legged position for a moment or two and do some deep inhales. I’ll apply the lavender right before. It helps me to focus on relaxing and what I want to pray about. I usually say some prayers and talk with God a little bit while in this position.
Here is another post about essential oils and yoga. I enjoyed this post because she gives specific oils to use with specific poses.
